DeepSeek said on 30 September it had partnered with Huawei Technologies to develop programming tools for Huawei’s Ascend chips, Reuters reported.
In a post on its official WeChat account, DeepSeek said it was open-sourcing a high-level programming language called TileLang, together with compute and communication libraries for the Ascend platform. Reuters described the partnership as part of a wider effort by Chinese technology companies to develop alternatives to Nvidia’s ecosystem.
DeepSeek said its aim was to build an “independent, self-controlled GPU software ecosystem”. It identified a language that is easy to use while drawing on the hardware’s performance as the first priority. The announcement centres on software for programming Ascend chips rather than a new chip or AI model. AI Affairs previously reported that DeepSeek had teased an 8 trillion parameter model after a 2 trillion parameter training run.
DeepSeek said TileLang offered “a simpler programming model” than Nvidia’s CUDA. The company said that approach would make development more efficient and code logic simpler.
