Privacy policy

This policy explains what AI Affairs collects when you read the site, why it is collected and how to reach us about it. It was last reviewed in September 2026.

What we collect

Reading an article requires no account and no personal details. Our web server keeps standard request logs containing an abbreviated IP address, the page requested, a timestamp, the referring page and the browser user agent. Those logs are used to diagnose faults and measure traffic, and they are deleted after 30 days.

If you email the newsroom, we keep your message and address for as long as the correspondence is relevant. If you subscribe to a newsletter, we keep the email address you gave us and the record of your consent until you unsubscribe.

Cookies

The site sets two analytics cookies, described below, and no advertising cookie of its own. Logged-in contributors also receive session cookies from the publishing system, which are required for the editor to work. Third party cookies may be set by the advertising provider described below.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which articles are read. Its script sets two cookies on aiaffairs.com, _ga and _ga_4G5460MZX4, which hold a random identifier so that repeat visits from the same browser can be told apart. They expire two years after your last visit.

With each page view, Google receives the address of the page, the referring page, your browser and device type, and a rough location worked out from your IP address. Google Analytics does not store the IP address itself. Google processes this data for us under its data processing terms. Data tied to the identifier is kept for 14 months after your last visit and event-level detail for two months. Aggregated figures such as page view counts are kept after that.

You can stop this measurement by blocking cookies for this site, with a content blocker, or with Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Advertising

Advertising on AI Affairs is served by Google AdSense. When an advertisement loads, Google may set cookies or read device identifiers to select advertisements and measure their performance, and it processes that data as an independent controller under its own terms. Advertising slots are marked as advertising in the page markup, and screen readers can skip them.

You can change how advertisements are personalised through Google’s own advertising settings, and browser controls or content blockers will also prevent the advertising script from loading. The site remains fully readable with advertising blocked.

Sharing and your rights

We do not sell reader data and we do not share newsletter addresses with advertisers. Data is shared only with the hosting, email, analytics and advertising providers needed to run the site, and only to the extent each one needs.

You can ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Write to privacy@aiaffairs.com and we will answer within 30 days. Questions about this policy go to the same address, and questions about published articles go to corrections@aiaffairs.com.
