Infosys CEO says AI services could make up almost half its work

Salil Parekh said the business accounted for over 8% of revenue last quarter and could reach 20-30% of company work within a few quarters.

Infosys chief executive Salil Parekh said on 13 October that AI services, which accounted for over 8% of revenue last quarter, could represent almost half the company’s work in two to three years, The Economic Times reported.

Parekh said the business was growing at a double-digit rate from one quarter to the next. If that pace continues, he said, AI services could account for 20-30% of Infosys’ work within a few quarters. The work includes building AI agents, coding and modernising clients’ older technology.

Parekh said Infosys recruited 20,000 college graduates last year and plans to recruit another 20,000 this financial year. The company trains them in AI before they work with clients on deployment and organisational change. Parekh said about 80,000 of Infosys’ 3 lakh employees work on coding tools for clients and some internal projects. Infosys and Columbia also launched an enterprise AI centre at One World Trade Center.

Parekh said clients were considering cheaper or open-weight models to reduce the cost of the same work. He also warned that chips were expensive and that new foundation models could make inference several times cheaper, affecting data-centre capacity.
