Modal said on 19 October that it plans to use Nvidia’s Vera CPU to host AI agents after early tests doubled the work agents could complete on the chip, Reuters reported. The tests compared Vera with Intel and AMD processors already on the market.

Modal rents computing power to AI developers and has used only Intel and AMD chips for agent workloads. Chief Executive Erik Bernhardsson said Vera would join those processors in a mixed fleet, with jobs assigned to the hardware that runs them best. Supporting Vera will require substantial software changes at Modal.

Modal raised $750 million in an Accel-led round at a $15.75 billion valuation. The company said it is on track for $1 billion in sales over the next year. Nvidia has told investors it expects at least $20 billion in Vera sales this fiscal year and values the CPU market at roughly $200 billion.
