Nvidia announced a five-year, $250 million compute donation for UK agentic safety and security research on 13 October, according to its newsroom release. The company also announced a $1 billion commitment to US science on 8 October.

The UK programme is intended to provide $50 million in compute access annually. Nvidia says most of the commitment will support the wider UK AI safety and security research community, while a proportion will go towards work with the University of Oxford-led British Open-Ended Learning and Discovery Lab, the UCL-led Science of Fundamental AI Research Lab and Imperial College London.

The labs’ work spans how AI systems learn and operate alongside people, open-source AI architectures, safety engineering and robotics. Nvidia says it will fund access through UK-based Nvidia Cloud Partners using infrastructure hosted in the UK. Provider selection, technical architecture and commercial terms are to be agreed.
