Voxel51 said in its 21 October announcement at Nvidia GTC Berlin that Porsche, other Volkswagen Group brands and CARIAD are building a shared system for autonomous-vehicle development expected to reduce repeat physical test drives by up to 90%. The company also expects AI regression test cycles to shorten by up to 85%.
Porsche is leading the initial implementation with Voxel51, Nvidia and Microsoft, according to Voxel51. The system connects recordings from Volkswagen Group vehicles to training, simulation and testing workflows. Voxel51 puts the fleet’s daily data output at the equivalent of 11,000 average drivers.
Voxel51 says its platform selects driving data and links model failures to scenarios needed for further testing. Nvidia supplies tools to prepare data and reconstruct real drives, while Microsoft Azure supplies cloud storage and computing for the workflows.
Before reconstruction, Voxel51 says it checks recordings against roughly 80 measures, including sensor integrity, timing and calibration. Engineers can then approve reconstructed scenes for simulation, send them back for retraining or reject them.
