Workday said in its 13 October announcement at Workday Rising in Las Vegas that it had signed a definitive agreement to acquire C1.ai, with closing expected in its fiscal fourth quarter ending January 31, 2027.
Workday says C1.ai manages access for people and AI agents across systems including email, customer relationship software, code repositories, finance applications and cloud infrastructure. Access can be granted as roles change and removed when it is no longer needed, according to Workday.
Workday says its Agent System of Record already gives companies a place to view and manage their AI agents. It plans to use C1.ai to govern what registered agents can access across Workday and other enterprise systems. C1.ai says its platform uses scoped permissions, enforced policies and human approval.
Workday says completion remains subject to customary closing conditions. BofA Securities is advising Workday on the transaction and Orrick is its legal adviser. Qatalyst is advising C1.ai, with Ashurst Perkins Coie serving as its legal adviser.
