The Rockefeller Foundation said on 14 October 2026 that it and the OpenAI Foundation had launched Cities Deliver: AI Solutions for Public Services, a $50 million grant initiative for organisations working with city governments. The foundations say grants will range from $500,000 to $2 million and that the programme aims to reach up to 100 million city residents globally.

The call covers public health, economic mobility, environmental resilience and civic engagement. According to the Rockefeller Foundation, applicants must be eligible nonprofit or civil society organisations with a city government partner committed to the project. Each proposal must serve a charitable purpose and use recent AI models for complex tasks. Applicants may choose their own models and products, with no preference for OpenAI technology. The civic engagement category excludes voting and election projects.

The Rockefeller Foundation says it plans follow-on grants for partners involved in earlier projects in Rio de Janeiro, Cali and Cape Town. Proposed expansions include a wider flood-alert service in Rio and extending Dengue.AI’s outbreak forecasting from Cali to Cartagena. The foundations say applications opened on 14 October and will close on 29 November 2026.
