Reuters reported that Ting-Wei ‘Willy’ Sun, a contractor linked to Super Micro Computer, pleaded guilty on 8 October in a scheme to export servers containing advanced Nvidia AI chips illegally to China.

US prosecutors charged Sun and two others associated with Super Micro in March 2026. The charges alleged that the three, including a company co-founder, conspired to divert about $2.5 billion worth of US AI technology to China in violation of export laws.

AI Affairs has also reported the arrest of a California man over an alleged $300 million Nvidia server-smuggling scheme. Sun entered his plea in US District Court in Manhattan, Reuters reported.
