Core Stack and Green Arrow Capital plan to invest more than €1 billion ($1.12 billion) over four years to build 13 mid-size data centres in Italy, the companies said on 7 October, Reuters reported.

Key points

  • The planned investment covers 13 mid-size facilities over four years.
  • The companies say the centres will use renewable energy generated on-site and an entirely Italian supply chain for development.
  • They expect permits for the Cremona and Verona sites by the end of 2027 and operations in the first quarter of 2028.

Core Stack and Green Arrow’s four-year plan

Core Stack is Lazzari Group’s digital infrastructure business. Its planned investment with Green Arrow Capital covers facilities in several parts of Italy, beginning with projects in the north and northeast that are further advanced than those elsewhere in the programme.

The companies said the data centres would run on renewable energy generated at their sites. They also said development would use an entirely Italian supply chain. After the more advanced northern and northeastern projects, they plan to turn their attention to the centre-south.

Cremona and Verona target 2028 opening

The first two planned sites are in the provinces of Cremona and Verona. Core Stack and Green Arrow Capital expect to obtain the required permits for those sites by the end of 2027.
