Bloomberg reported on 8 October that a study commissioned by the Italian Datacenter Association puts potential spending on Italy’s data-centre expansion through 2036 at some €36.9 billion ($41.5 billion), with artificial intelligence and cloud computing fuelling capacity growth.

Italy’s commercial data-centre capacity is projected to rise about fivefold to as much as 2.3 gigawatts by 2031, according to the study. That projection is based on projects already identified. It compares with about 460 megawatts of data-centre capacity operating in Italy at the end of 2025.

The Italian Datacenter Association is set to release the study on 8 October.
