Amazon chief executive Andy Jassy said AWS could reach $1 trillion in annual revenue within five to 10 years, compared with its current $184 billion annualised revenue run rate, during the company’s 29 October earnings call, TechCrunch reported.
Jassy said Amazon expects approximately $220 billion in cash capital expenditure in 2026, with most of it going to AWS, and expects to spend “meaningfully more” in 2027. Analysts repeatedly questioned him about the scale of the spending and the returns Amazon expects, TechCrunch reported. An earlier AI Affairs report put Amazon’s third-quarter property and equipment spending above $77 billion.
AWS revenue rose 39 per cent from a year earlier, its sixth consecutive quarter of steady growth. Jassy forecast growth of more than 40 per cent in each of 2027 and 2028. Amazon shares were down about 6 per cent in after-hours trading on 29 October.
