Kahua announced a minority growth investment from Bain Capital Tech Opportunities on 29 September at a valuation above $1 billion, after reaching what it says is $100 million in annualised revenue.

Key points

  • Kahua announced a minority investment at a valuation above $1 billion.
  • The company says it has reached $100 million in annualised revenue.
  • Kahua says more than 2,500 customers use its platform, which supports more than $400 billion in capital programmes.
  • The company intends to invest in its AI products, sales operations, customer support and staff development.

Kahua reaches $100 million in annualised revenue

The investment places Kahua’s stated valuation above $1 billion. Kahua described the transaction as a minority growth investment, with Bain Capital Tech Opportunities as the investor. The company linked the announcement to its achievement of $100 million in annualised revenue, a measure of its current revenue rate.

Scott Unger, Kahua’s chief executive and co-founder, called the revenue figure a milestone for the business. He attributed it to customers’ trust and the work of the company’s staff. Kahua says the investment is intended to support further development of its software and the organisation selling and servicing it.

Kahua identifies AI and product development, go-to-market work, customer success and talent development as areas for investment. Those plans span both the software and the operations that bring it to customers. Unger said Kahua intends to develop its AI capabilities with Bain Capital and invest further in its workforce.

Kahua’s announcement carries an Alpharetta, Georgia, dateline. It describes its product as an enterprise construction platform for owners and delivery teams working on complex capital programmes. Kahua says it connects the people, processes and data involved in those programmes, rather than serving only one stage of a construction project.

Kahua cites $400 billion in capital programmes

Kahua says its platform serves more than 2,500 customers and supports more than $400 billion in capital programmes. The programme figure describes the value of projects supported on the platform, while the $100 million figure describes Kahua’s annualised revenue. The two measures refer to different parts of its business.

Kahua says capital programmes in transportation, healthcare and education are becoming larger and more complex. It also points to spending on energy, digital infrastructure and data centres as part of the market for managing major assets. Kahua says organisations running multi-year programmes often use separate systems and processes to manage them.

Kahua presents its software as a shared record for owners and delivery teams, covering work from funding and planning through construction and long-term operation. It says the platform gives participants a governed environment in which to work with programme information and collaborate across those stages.

For Kahua’s AI plans, the company points to the data and context collected in that environment. It says those inputs support AI use within workflows for planning, programme management and decisions about assets. Its stated product focus therefore sits alongside the broader work of keeping project information available to the teams using the platform.

Bain Capital Tech Opportunities backs Kahua’s expansion

Philip Meicler, a partner at Bain Capital Tech Opportunities, described Kahua’s work as connecting information used by owners and delivery teams across an asset’s life. He said the investor intends to work with Unger and Kahua’s staff as the company expands into more markets.

Bain Capital Tech Opportunities is part of Bain Capital, whose investments span private equity, growth and venture capital, capital solutions, credit and real assets. Kahua’s announcement says Bain Capital was founded in 1984 and has 24 offices across four continents. It puts the firm’s assets under management at approximately $225 billion.
