Microsoft recorded $10 billion in revenue from OpenAI in the quarter ended 30 September 2026, nearly 11% of its $92.3 billion quarterly total, TechCrunch reported on 28 October, citing a regulatory filing. The sum came from commercial arrangements that include revenue-sharing payments. The period was the first quarter of Microsoft’s fiscal 2027.
Revenue from OpenAI reached $24.1 billion for the full 2026 fiscal year. Microsoft put its OpenAI receivables at $7.2 billion at September’s close, compared with $6 billion at June’s close. Those receivables are amounts owed for earlier transactions, rather than additional revenue.
Under an April 2026 agreement, OpenAI committed to continue sharing revenue with Microsoft through 2030, subject to a cap. An October 2025 agreement gave OpenAI greater freedom to use other cloud providers in exchange for a commitment to buy an additional $250 billion in Azure services. Microsoft’s ownership stake in OpenAI declined from about 25% in June to 24% in September.
