On 24 October, Trade Arabia reported that a consortium led by Mubbadrah Investment had announced plans for a $3 billion AI data centre in Oman, with capacity of up to 400 MW. The announcement was made at a signing ceremony in London during Sultan Haitham bin Tarik’s state visit to the United Kingdom.

Mubbadrah, an Omani investment group with more than 20 companies in its portfolio, is working with Sustopia Capital, Vela Tech and O2 Global Energy. The facility is designed for hyperscale computing operators and is planned to handle AI training and inference workloads. The project has scope for expansion.

The facility is planned to use power from the national grid and renewable sources. O2 Global Energy will develop 400 MW of solar generation with battery storage for the campus. Sustopia Capital and Vela Tech are developing, designing and constructing about 20 GW of AI data centre capacity globally, according to the announcement.

Crusoe has expressed interest in becoming a potential off-taker for the Oman facility’s data centre capacity.
