Three former OpenAI security researchers accused the company on 15 October of firing them for warning about AI dangers, The Hindu reported. The accusation puts the researchers’ account of their dismissal in public for the first time after a week of silence.

Mikita Balesni, Tomek Korbak and Jasmine Wang publicly shared a letter to OpenAI. AI Affairs previously reported that the company parted ways with three safety researchers after an internal investigation. The researchers had also urged OpenAI’s board to preserve oversight of AI reasoning.

The Hindu reported that OpenAI’s software has been involved in security breaches. Balesni gave a different account of why the researchers lost their jobs: “I believe we were fired for prioritizing safety over the near-term interests of OpenAI as a corporation,” he wrote on X.
