Nvidia Head of Sustainability Josh Parker is calling for faster US nuclear deployment to meet electricity demand from AI and industry, Dagens reported on 5 October. His case links computing needs to a broader rise in American power demand.

Parker argues that AI and economic electrification are driving that growth. Manufacturing returning to the United States and expanding robotics initiatives are adding to demand. Tech companies, meanwhile, are becoming a well-capitalised customer base willing to invest heavily in next-generation nuclear infrastructure.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has shortened reviews for select construction permits to 18 months, Dagens reported. Congress passed the ADVANCE Act in July 2024 to update nuclear licensing and reduce application fees. Advanced nuclear projects will not arrive fast enough to meet immediate computing power needs, and tech companies must rely on a wider energy mix while those reactors develop, according to Dagens.
