The Global Times reported that Sugon 8000’s physical system debuted at the China National Annual Conference on High Performance Computing on 18 October, with capacity for more than 100,000 domestically developed computing cards.
The cards are interconnected at high speed. Sugon 8000 brings high-performance computing and AI computing into one architecture, designed to run precise scientific calculations as well as AI model training and inference. Liu Gang, director of the Institute of Economic Research at Nankai University, said computing resources could be assigned according to each task’s requirements.
Planning around the weather could benefit if meteorology research using the system were put to practical use.
Sugon said the system is connected to the national integrated computing network through the National Supercomputing Internet and will provide computing services to research institutions, universities, enterprises and individuals. At the conference, Sugon presented 10 research applications using the system, across fields including meteorology, oceanography, agricultural breeding and energy exploration. More than 300 applications have been optimised for Sugon 8000 in more than 30 research and industrial fields, and over 20 operate across the entire system.
