Adnoc signed an agreement with OpenAI and G42 on 2 November to deploy OpenAI’s frontier AI across its operations, becoming the first energy company to do so, The National reported. It was one of four agreements between Abu Dhabi-based entities and OpenAI. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, witnessed the signing after meeting OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman.

Adnoc’s agreement is with G42 through its subsidiary Inception42. The planned deployment uses OpenAI’s GPT models and UAE-based infrastructure to run them. Adnoc aims to use the technology in operational, investment and commercial decisions.

In a separate initiative, the Abu Dhabi Government and OpenAI launched a programme to make policies and regulations readable by AI systems for routine compliance work. Officials retain responsibility for final decisions. Its first pilot, with the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, concerns food imports.

Mubadala, Inception42 and OpenAI also agreed to use AI in investment analysis, identifying opportunities and assessing risk. Inception42 and OpenAI signed a five-year agreement to support adoption across government, businesses and education in the UAE.
