CNA reported that Foxconn chairman Young Liu said at Hon Hai Tech Day in Taipei on 30 October that the company was working on a new tie-up with OpenAI and expected double-digit growth in 2027. Liu met OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman earlier that day and said the companies would make an announcement once details were confirmed.
The proposed tie-up follows a 2025 agreement to work together on the design and engineering of data-centre racks, components and other AI hardware. Liu said he did not believe the AI industry was in a bubble, despite concerns about whether heavy investment could continue as borrowing costs climbed.
Liu said Foxconn saw a need to expand beyond its six factory buildings in Houston, Texas, where it makes AI servers for Nvidia. Foxconn said in August that its cloud and networking products segment, which covers AI servers, generated 51 per cent of revenue in the second quarter — its first share above 50 per cent.
