Reuters reported on 4 November that Oracle had scrapped a chip-leasing contract with Tencent following pressure from the Trump administration, citing a Financial Times report. The agreement was worth $7 billion and would have given Tencent access to about 100,000 advanced AI chips over five years.

US officials approached Oracle with concerns about the arrangement, Reuters reported. Officials in Guangdong, where Tencent is based, also visited the company and asked it to support domestic Chinese chips. AI Affairs previously covered the Financial Times report that Tencent had signed the Oracle lease.

Reuters said it could not immediately verify the Financial Times report. Oracle, Tencent and the White House did not respond to Reuters.
