ChatGPT has 1.2 billion weekly active users, and its search-like query volume is roughly one-fifth of Google’s, consumer product lead Adam Fry said at an OpenAI dinner in New York City on 2 November, Big Technology reported. The search comparison puts a figure on how often people turn to ChatGPT for questions they might otherwise put to a search engine.
Fry said weekly active users rose from 1 billion to 1.2 billion over the past two months. He described that increase as roughly 100 million users in each 30-day period.
For Fry, a ChatGPT search is a user question that prompts a web search. He said the category includes requests for current information about people, places or things, as well as some finance and health questions. The comparison concerns query volume, rather than the number of people using each product.
Fry said users create 1.5 billion images with ChatGPT each week. He put weekly active users of voice input, including dictation and voice conversations, at 250 million.
