Moonshot AI’s AI assistant Kimi apologised in the early hours of Monday 26 October for rate limits and wasted paid-member quota on K3.1 Pro, Pandaily reported. Kimi promised every active subscriber a one-time reset of 25% of their monthly allowance and said it had changed the model’s configuration to reduce unnecessary work.
Key points
- Kimi apologised for rate limits and unnecessary quota use on K3.1 Pro.
- All active subscribers are promised a one-time reset of 25% of their monthly quota.
- Kimi says it has reduced unnecessary sub-agent calls and output length.
Kimi promises a 25% quota reset
The reset applies to subscription members on every tier. Kimi described the credit as roughly a week’s use, though each member’s allowance is measured against their own monthly quota. For members who have used less than 25% of that quota, Kimi said it would set recorded usage back to zero.
“The problem was on our side, and we should have fixed it sooner,” Kimi said in its apology. The company said subscribers would see the adjusted figures on their usage bars before the end of 26 October. Its apology covered both the limits members encountered and quota spent unnecessarily while using the new model.
That combination matters to paying users: a limit can interrupt work, while an unnecessary call can consume the allowance they have already bought. Kimi’s promised reset addresses the quota consumed, and its configuration change addresses how future requests use it.
Moonshot AI trims K3.1 Pro sub-agents
Kimi said it had changed its configuration to reduce unnecessary sub-agent calls and shorten outputs, so a member’s quota could cover more tasks. In an agent workflow, one request can trigger several subordinate calls, each drawing on the same allowance. Output length also affects how much of that allowance a task consumes.
K3.1 Pro was developed by post-training Kimi K3, CGTN reported. Moonshot AI says the model has about 3 trillion parameters and a 1 million token context window. The company also offers a Highspeed version that it says produces output about two to three times faster. K3.1 Pro is available through the Kimi app, Kimi Work, Kimi Code, kimi.com and the Kimi API.
K3.1 Pro’s release date differs
Pandaily dated the K3.1 Pro launch to 24 October. CGTN reported that Moonshot AI released it on Friday 23 October. The apology followed within days of either date.
K3.1 Pro debuted fourth on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index, as AI Affairs reported at launch. In July, Kimi temporarily stopped accepting new consumer subscriptions days after the K3 launch when demand exceeded available compute, Pandaily reported.
Moonshot AI says it will release the full K3.1 Pro model weights before 4 November.
