Huawei’s Ascend 950 SuperPoD wins award as deployments pass 1,000

The company’s deployment figure covers the SuperPoD line, including earlier systems. Huawei also claims 45% training compute utilisation for its 1,024-NPU system.

Huawei’s Ascend 950 SuperPoD won a 2026 World Internet Conference Leading Technology Award at a ceremony in Wuzhen, Zhejiang, a win reported on 2 November, and the company said SuperPoD deployments had passed 1,000 sets, Pandaily reported. The award went to 20 projects selected from more than 430 entries from 43 countries and regions.

Huawei said the deployments span internet, carrier, finance, education and energy customers. The figure covers the SuperPoD line rather than the 950 generation alone. Earlier in 2026, Huawei said more than 750 sets of its earlier Ascend 384 SuperPoD had been deployed commercially.

Huawei claims its 1,024-NPU system reaches 45% training compute utilisation, which it puts at 1.8 times the industry level, and can deliver inference latency as low as 5 milliseconds. Pandaily reported that none of those performance figures had been independently benchmarked. More than 40 large models have completed native pretraining on Ascend hardware, according to Huawei. A 1,024-NPU Ascend 950DT cluster went live in Wuhan, and Pandaily reported that it was built in about a month.
